Last year I fell into conversation with the owner of a shoe shop about her frustation with politicians.
‘I shout at the TV’ she said, ‘but they don’t hear me.’
As world conflicts began and wars raged, I found the image of a silent impotent scream coming back to me. I wanted to explore (and exorcise) my frustation and sense of futility in protesting against current events. Perhaps something personal was also in the mix, but I wasn’t conscious of it at the time.
I decided to paint it as a self portrait in an earthy squat of defiance! The outfit - a dressing gown, the costume of inactivity and staying stuck in one place. The pixelated background began to take over the portrait, seeming to spar with her and ultimately win.

Here’s a very rough maquette of my female ‘Thinker’. I’ve never done sculpture so have a lot of learning to do which is exciting. I’d like to create this as a bigger more detailed version in time. I’m not even sure what material I’ll be using yet!
Oil pastel on canvas board 40 x 30cm
This commission was a client’s mother who used to draw little pictures as she told her granddaughter stories. I love the intensity of the child’s gaze and the relationship captured between the two - you can tell she was a good storyteller!
The oil pastel drawing was for a client I met by chance when hanging a print of ‘Wednesday Lunch’ in Em’s cafe Whetstone. She said the elderly woman in the painting reminded her of her mother who sadly passed away in the pandemic.
She chose this image of her mother telling stories to her now adult daughter.
I’ve got behind with things so reckon I’m just in time to say Happy New Year! Last year was a biggy for me, including my first solo exhibition which was a great learning curve.
Here’s to a kinder and more peaceful year for the world in 2024.
This limited edition giclée print is available in my new Etsy shop at artlal.etsy.com It’s one of 3 cloud studies that sit together as a triptych or individually. The originals are also still available in my gallery sale
Coming back atcha Da Vinci!
Vitruvian Woman is one of my first dry point etching prints. I’ve always wnted to depict the image as a powerful woman giving birth. I did a life size corrugated cardboard during lockdown (haven’t screwed up the courage to share that yet!). This idea has been the springboard of several artworks to come which I’m really excited about. Watch this space!
Giclée prints…of the print are available in my Etsy shop at artlal.etsy.com

My art prints are settling in nicely at Potters Pantry and Em’s cafes. Here’s a new one up in Potters Pantry - first time I’ve tried a larger print size than the original painting. I like the way it emphasises the paintbrush strokes and lights and shadows of the thick paint.

‘Dog Walk’ This painting of the Duver in Seaview, the Isle of Wight arrived safely by post with its new owner after the exhibition. It was a work of 2 stages, at first marking out the land/seascape with loose brushstrokes, and then working in a little detail as a focal point. Hence the title!
A while ago I refreshed my artwork in 2 local cafes with these giclée prints of my original artwork. I’m loving this as it means being able to recreate work that has sold in an affordable way, often at a smaller size than the original that suits a lot of people! Again, these are all on beautiful textured Hahnemühle German etching paper printed by the brilliant @theprintspace.
Prints of most of my artworks on Artlal.com are available in A4 and A3 size.
The cafés they’re showing at are the lovely @potterspantry4 in New Barnet and @emscoffeelondon in Whetstone.

‘Ashridge’ was the first painting to sell in my exhibition and the last to deliver! Giclée prints still available - the picture with a black frame is an A4 print.
Lovely to hear my bouncy painting ‘JUMP!’ has been longlisted for the Women In Art Prize. Here’s hoping it’ll leap into the next round! Ba doom chh!
Delivered a couple of prints today, one of ‘Reading Under Blossom’ and the other ‘Sea Spray’.
I’ve been meaning to offer prints of my work for some time, but it took the exhibition to spur me into action. Finding the right printer has also been key - the Print Space has done these excellent giclée prints on Hahnemuhle german etching paper which really retains the quality of the paint strokes and tones.
Most of my artwork is available in roughly A3 or A4 size
Another 4 pics on their way to their new owners yesterday including these 2 - Spring Walk and Storm Passing. Farewell my beauties!
Giclée prints still available of all work from exhibition.
